Job Description
Under direct supervision, assists the dentist and/or dental hygienist in chairside dentistry. Prepares dental instruments and the dental operatory. May perform administrative tasks.
Credentials Preferred: • X-ray Certification • Annual PPD and CPR certification • Security clearance, where applicable
Essential Job Functions Prepare, disinfect, sterilize, and maintain dental operatory and instruments. • Arrange equipment and supplies logically and according to preferences of the attending dentist(s). • Pours and trims laboratory models using accepted procedures. • Operates radiographic equipment to obtain dental radiographs of patients. • Assists the dentist by providing direct chairside technical support processes; Hands the dentist instruments and supplies during the course of the procedure(s) according to need and based on accepted protocols. • Seat and prepare patients for scheduled procedures promptly and courteously. • Correctly measures pre- and post-sedation vital signs. • Correctly dispenses any prescribed oral sedative medications to patient. • Assembles instruments and supplies that will be needed for the procedures. • Follows universal guidelines and procedures for safety and infection control. • Reports and documents all hazardous or infectious exposures according to established guidelines. • Appropriately applies and monitors protective restraints to patients as necessary, following applicable guidelines protocol. • Accurately counts instruments and instrument packs according to established procedures, immediately reporting discrepancies and/or any questionable occurrences to supervisor. • Follows established key control policies and procedures and all applicable security procedures. • Performs routine administrative and clerical functions. • Assembles and files dental records according to prescribed methods. Pulls records according to daily schedule of appointments • Inventories supplies regularly, maintaining sufficient quantities to avoid shortages. Places supply orders according to procedures and lead times and keeps appropriate records. 5. Prepares periodic and special reports and correspondence according to required protocols and time lines. • Employee may be required to perform other related duties to meet needs of the patient, program, MHM or client.
Experience and Education Requirements • 6 months to one (1) year related work experience.
Certificate of completion from an accredited dental assistant program
Other Skills/Abilities • Excellent command of the English language and communication skills to include verbal, listening, written and comprehension • Ability to follow instructions (verbal and written), procedures, and protocol under pressure • Ability to accurately measure • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods • Ability to work well with others, exercising diplomacy
