Director of Orthodontics Job - Costa Mesa, CA - SmileCare Family Dentistry

Director Of Orthodontic

Excellent opportunity for a Dental Director with multiple dental office experience to manage our Ortho department. The Ortho Director is also responsible for initiating improvements and ensuring the Quality care for the department and make sure SmileCare's is up to par with Quality Management Guidelines and Standards and the States' regulatory requirements. Will work under general direction with maximum latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

B. Responsibilities

Directly responsible for clinical oversight of Orthodontist and Ortho Team Leads to ensure appropriate implementation of dental functions to meet patient care needs and treatment that meets with SmileCare's Quality Management Guidelines and Standards and community dental standards.

Responsible for monitoring and visiting selected staff model offices on a predetermined and regular basis to assess and enforce quality of care standards and to assess clinical needs of all Ortho dental staff.

Responsible for meeting with Regional Dental Directors on a regular basis to discuss overall issues relating to offices under their leadership and to develop strategies for improvement.

Establishes and/or enforces professional standards of care for patient examinations, diagnoses, treatment counseling to patients, and treatment planning.

Responsible for writing Plan policies and procedures to support the Plan's Quality Management standards and guidelines for clinical dental treatment. Also ensures that these guidelines meet with industry recognized standards of care.

Responsible for mentoring and acting as a resource for Regional Dental Directors, Clinical Team Leaders and Orthodontist to ensure retention of quality doctors.

Assists in establishing productivity goals and patient scheduling.

Responsible for establishing standards for reasonable access to dental care in a safe environment.

Develops and enforces guidelines for soliciting and monitoring patient feedback to improve patient satisfaction.

C. Organization Relationships

Reports directly to the COO and communicates and shares quality of care issues that may require corrective actions(s).

Will work closely with the Senior V.P. of Operations to ensure implementation of Quality Standards, and establishing productivity goals and patient scheduling.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

A. Education and Training

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the ability to meet productivity standards while maintaining accuracy and thoroughness; look for ways to improve and promote Orthodontic quality and productivity; manage competing demands; demonstrate knowledge of market and competition; and respond promptly to customer needs. Extensive knowledge of HIPPA, State regulatory requirements and business practices is required.

Dental doctorate degree from ADA accredited dental school

Current state licensure

Current CPR certificate

B. Technical Requirements

A minimum of ten years of clinical practice experience; must have 2-3 years in a managed care or similar military environment type practice.

Should be proficient in performing full range of dental services that include:

Diagnoses and treatment of oral lesions

Preventive and oral hygiene procedures

Non-surgical periodontal therapy

Fillings and crown restorations

Endodontic procedures, including molar teeth

Routine oral surgery extractions

All phases of fixed and removable prostheses

C. Managerial Experience

Extensive experience in managing and supervising Orthodontist, senior dentists, dental hygienists and clinical support staff.

D. Skills and Abilities

Ability to perform basic PC functions including word, Microsoft office.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of preventive and corrective dentistry and oral

hygiene; and of clinical dentistry.

Ability to provide clinical mentoring support to Orthodontist; to communicate standards for

diagnosing and treatment planning of patient dental care needs; and to ensure clinical dental

dentists and staff maintain dental records using best practices.

E. Reasoning Abilities

Ability to analyze statistics and financial data and develop solutions. Deal with a variety of

concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Ability to interpret a variety of data furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

F. Work Environment and Conditions

Work is performed in a corporate environment. Interaction with others is constant and

interruptive. Work may be demanding at times and requires some flexibility in working hours.

G. Physical Demands

50% travel to staff model offices and travel required to regulatory and dental industry

meetings/conferences for educational and training sessions.
